The following poem is based on my pastor's testimony

My Pastor

Let me tell you the story of my pastor and friend,
How God saved his soul and washed away his sins.

For twenty seven years his life was in a whirl,
Indulging sinful pleasures and the things of this world.

Then one night after work as driving home,
God let him see the frailty of life and how quickly it is gone.

Where the Johnson City Highway meets I eighty one,
There was an accident with casualties, God’s work had begun.

His attention was caught, and the things that he saw,
Made this intersection the cross roads of life for Andy Sensabaugh.

He began to ponder on life and death that night,
Concern swelled up as he began to see the light.

He saw this same scene for three nights in a row,
His heart was heavy and his spirits were low.

In a state of despair he called up a friend,
Got invited to a prayer meeting and decided to attend.

Then on the third day of May in the year of our Lord,
Nineteen hundred and seventy four,

At an old fashion cottage prayer meeting on the outskirts of town,
The portals of Heaven were opened and conviction came down.

Now he’s a big ole man, an awesome sight to see,
But that night my Lord brought him down to his knees.

He cried out for mercy and asked God to save his soul,
Then Jesus moved in and took up abode.

Those tears of sorrow became tears of joy,
A child of Hell became God’s little boy.

Then his wife knelt down and was born again too,
Their strife was gone, behold all things are become new.

Then it wasn't very long till God called him to preach His word,
Just a few months ago it would have seemed so absurd.

In the beginning, the congregation was but two or three,
But he trusted in God to give the increase.

Just as faith had moved God to place him on that solid rock,
Faith moved God to increase the flock.

When he was saved, some people said it won’t last long,
Well, that was thirty two years ago and he’s still going strong.

If you’d like to meet him, you won't have to search,
you’ll find him every Sunday and Wednesday down at Freedom Baptist Church.

He’s the pastor there, he’s loved by all,
He’s my pastor, he’s my friend, he’s my brother-in-law.

But more than this, because Jesus paid the price,
I can tell you that he’s also my brother in Christ.
