Special Project SP0002

The following is a guide I made up for the Bible School class that I helped teach this year (2006). A major focus of this year's Bible School was on "Spreading the Good News". Therefore a lot of emphasis was placed on preparing the students for witnessing to others about the gospel of Jesus Christ and winning lost souls for the Kingdom of God. In that capacity, I wrote the following "Witnessing Guide" and gave it to the students to aid them in this very important job that is the charge given to all Christians.

Witnessing Guide

Principles to Remember

  1. Approach with a friendly, humble, and nonjudgmental attitude.

  2. Use Scripture.

  3. Use "gospel tracts". Leaving a tract with somene after witnessing to them allows them to see and ponder on God's word long after you have gone. They may not remember everything you told them, but that tract be there for them to read anytime they want.

  4. Do not argue.

  5. Do thins in proper order. A person must first see that they are a sinner in need of a savior before they will be ready to receive salvation.

  6. Know when to back off. When someone shows signs of being irritated, let them ponder for a while on what you have already told them before continuing. Make room for God to do His part. Often, small doses over a period of time is more effective than relentless and aggressive techniques.

  7. Let your light shine! Often you can be a powerful witness just by living your life as a Christian so that they can see Christ in you. Then when you do approach them they will recognize you as a real and dedicated Christian and your words will have credibility with them.

  8. Pray. Follow up witnessing to someone by praying for them. Also if you plan ahead to witness to someone, pray before you go asking God to help you.

Scriptures to Use When Witnessing

We all have sinned.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Romans 3:23

The penalty for sin is death.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23

Christ died to pay for your sins.

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

To be saved, you must believe in your heart on the Lord Jesus Christ and confess that you accept him as your savior.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10

God promises to save all who will call upon Him seeking salvation.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Romans 10:13
